Leadbitter subsidiary expected to complete the University of East London campus building next year
A new major educational sports complex will be built at the University of East London after Denne was awarded the £15m design and build contract for construction.
Denne, part of the Leadbitter group, have the task to build the scheme which includes; two full size sports halls, an all weather floodlit pitch, as well as a facilities building connected to the sports halls.
Construction on the sports complex will take place at the University of East London’s Docklands campus in Newham.
The site - which historically was part of the Royal Albert Dock - has been subject to various site examinations which once included a search for unexploded bombs.
The buildings have been designed in order to meet a 20% target for renewable energy production. Included will be green roofs and photovoltaic cells for solar energy, while a biomass boiler will be used for heating.
On completion - set for the end of next year - the new facilities will be available for University staff and students as well as the local community.
Graham Brown, managing director of Denne, said: “We are looking forward to bringing our wealth of expertise to this project, which will provide the University of East London with first class sporting facilities.”
