Government’s top BIM advisor to join Aecom
The government’s head of BIM implementation, professor David Philp, is to leave his day job at Mace to take up a post at consultant Aecom in the New Year.
An Aecom spokesperson confirmed Philp “will be joining Aecom in January” after more than two years at Mace, which he joined from Balfour Beatty in 2012.
Aecom declined to reveal what Philp’s role will be at the firm. He is currently head of BIM at Mace, from which he is seconded to government as part of the core team running the government’s BIM strategy. He was appointed at Mace to create and lead the organisation’s BIM strategy.
As head of BIM Implementation at the Cabinet Office, Philp has effectively been second in command of the government’s strategy to get all central government construction contracts using BIM by 2016.
Philp is also chair of both the BIM2050 Group for young professionals and the Chartered Institute of Building BIM working group. Academically he is a professor at Glasgow Caledonian University and has been appointed visiting professor at Middlesex University.
