Developer cuts workforce by 10% as it reveals 2007 pre-tax loss of £3.9m

North-west developer David McLean has made 30 staff redundant as a result of the housing downturn.

In a statement the company said: “As with many companies, this situation is unavoidable in the present climate and we must take these steps now to ensure that we operate in the most efficient way possible in order to maintain our position of strength.”

The move, which represents a tenth of its 300 workforce, follows cuts at Redrow, Taylor Wimpey and Bellway.

The company posted a pre-tax loss in the year ended 31 December 2007 of £4.9m after taking a hit on two problem jobs. Turnover was £254m, down 9% on £279m in 2006.
