Modular specialist completed ward in live hospital setting
Modular specialist Darwin Group has completed the first of three new hospital wards for the NHS.
The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan is a permanent Nightingale ward for the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS trust built during the height of the covid-19 lockdown.
Designed and manufactured offsite, the build was completed in less than 40 days.
It was built on a live hospital site and required to follow social distancing measures.
The 1,156m2 facility will contain 50 in-patient beds across two wards.
The units were manufactured at Darwin’s factory in Shrewsbury.
