BIG Architects and Ramboll reveal masterplan for Asia's first carbon-neutral residential development
BIG Architects and engineer Ramboll have unveiled a masterplan for central Asia's first carbon-neutral resort and residential development.
The design of the Azerbaijan's Zira Island development, located along the Caspian Sea, includes seven “peaks”, which represent famous mountains in the country. Each houses a residential development, in addition there are a further 300 private villas.
The aim is for the development to be zero carbon. Power will be derived from an offshore wind farm and photovoltaics while heating and cooling is provided by a mix of solar thermal panels and heat pumps. Waste and storm water will be treated on site, making the development self contained.
