World’s wealthiest artist to create new neighbourhood at seaside town
The world’s richest artist, Damien Hirst, has unveiled his plans for a 750-home development on the edge of the seaside town of Ilfracombe in North Devon.
The plans for Hirst’s land, which aim to accommodate all the town’s expansion up to 2031, are currently open to consultation with local people before being submitted for planning permission later this year.
As well as new housing, the masterplan includes a mixed-use neighbourhood hub with a new primary school, community, medical, local shopping and employment facilities.
The team developing the plans consists of consultant David Lock Associates, project manager and cost consultant Jackson Coles, architect MRJ Rundell Associates and surveyor Andrew Watton.
Will Cousins, partner at David Lock Associates, said: “As a landowner Damien Hirst is committed to the masterplan approach being taken forward providing for resource-efficient and sustainable designs of the highest quality”
