Firm reissues safety guidance to contractors
Crossrail has suspended all ground breaking work following an electrical explosion at its Drury Lane site in central London.
On Wednesday a man was taken to hospital after he struck a below ground cable while working at the site and suffered burns from the resulting explosion.
A spokesperson for Crossrail said the suspension of ground breaking activity such as piling and utility excavation was “standard procedure” following a cable strike incident “until we are fully confident that it is safe to proceed”.
They added: “Crossrail has also issued instructions to contractor sites reiterating the processes that must be followed when approving and undertaking below ground works.”
