Crane smashes into Russian building

A tower crane smashed into a nine-storey block of flats in the Russian city of Kirov.

Witnesses reported seeing the crane rolling towards the building and tearing through its balconies.

Despite extensive damage to the building – which is home to some 250 people – no injuries were reported.

Sky News reported one resident saying there had been strong winds at around the time that the drama unfolded on Sunday afternoon.

“It drove for about 100 metres and then collided with the limiter and fell on the nearby nine-storey block house,” they said.

“It fell on a car, you can’t see the car on the video, the rest of the crane smashed the balconies and other cars parked outside.”
