Strong winds bring down crane in Westminster
A crane has collapse on the roof of the Cabinet Office in Westminster.
The crane collapsed as the UK was battered by a storm overnight with high winds of up to 70mph.
Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg cancelled a regular press conference at the Cabinet Office due to the collapsed crane and disruption to commuters’ journeys.
He tweeted: “Today’s press conference moved to a day when there isn’t a crane on the roof and journalists travelling on the train are able to join us.”
Whitehall, the road running next to the building, has been closed.
No injuries have been reported.
