Derwent’s objection against development of cricket ground is dismissed

A £32m regeneration of Old Trafford cricket ground was green-lighted yesterday after the Court of Appeal dismissed objections to the plan.

Work on the project was due to commence in May however legal objections by local shopping centre owner Derwent Holdings delayed the scheme.

The project involves the installation of new pitches, stands, media facilities and an extension to the ground’s indoor cricket school.

Capacity at the ground will increase to 25,000 with new floodlights and a big screen also being installed.

The court’s rejection of Derwent’s objection paves the way for the ground to host a money-spinning Ashes test in 2013.
