Route through national park presents engineering and environmental challenges
Costain has won a £150m deal to build the A465 Heads of the Valleys road in South Wales.
The Welsh government awarded a contract to a consortium made up of Costain, Atkins, Halcrow and RPS Group to design and construct an 8km section between Brynmawr and Gilwern.
In an announcement the company said that the project will present “significant engineering and environmental challenges” because of the route of the road through the Clydach Gorge within the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Chief executive of Costain Andrew Wyllie said:
“We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and are committed to deliver a high quality, safe and cost effective scheme for the Welsh government and the local community.
“This award demonstrates the strength of our position as one of the UK’s leading solution providers in the highways sector.”
