Country one of hardest hit by outbreak
Taylor Wimpey has said all of its sites at its £120m-a-year Spanish business has shut down amid sweeping public restrictions in the country.
A spokesperson for the housebuilder said: “We have closed all our construction sites in Spain.”
Last week Spain announced a 15 day state of emergency to combat the coronavirus pandemic and stopped people from leaving their homes for all non-essential reasons. The government also ordered all schools, restaurants and bars to close.
The number of coronavirus cases in the country topped 18,000 yesterday with 831 deaths.
Taylor Wimpey worked on an average 21 sites at any one time last year.
It completed 323 homes in the country in 2019 and improved operating profit by 10% to £32m.
