Activity Barometer finds overall sales set to rise further during fourth quarter

Construction product sales have seen a rise during the third quarter of 2007 despite recent financial upheaval, according to the latest Activity Barometer.

The report, compiled by Ernst and Young and the Construction Products Association, found the third quarter of 2007 scored 73 compared to a record high of 80 in the second quarter.

Overall product sales are set to rise further during the fourth quarter, although the pace of growth is expected to moderate.

Máren Baldauf, economist for construction products association, said the findings indicate that the construction industry remains buoyant but “year-on-year sales growth is set to moderate during the fourth quarter,” he said.

This is partly due to a strong finish to last year. It also reflects industry caution following current turmoil in the financial markets.
