Capita Archtiecture will replicate its Cardiff theatre design in Chongqing mixed-use project
The design for the Wales Millennium Centre is to be replicated on a massive mixed-use scheme in China.
Capita Archictecture will incorporate its design for the Cardiff theatre into a £100m development, which will include housing for 150,000 people.
The theatre in Chongqing will have a capacity of at least 1,400 and will feature stalls, an upper dress circle and two levels of foyer space.
A visit to Cardiff by a delegation of Chinese officials led to the deal, which should see Capita's designs passed to the Chongqing Jinyang Real Estate company later this year.
Rob Firman, director of Capita Architecture, and leader on the project, said: “It’s a great honour to be taking our design to one of the world’s fastest growing cities.
“What’s more, it also highlights the flexibility of the design as it has enabled us to not only adapt it specifically for the Chongqing development, but to evolve it to another level."
