South Wales sports complex is due to open in December 2009
Welsh firm ChandlerKBS has been appointed cost consultant on a £12.5m canoe slalom, which will form part of a major sporting complex in south Wales.
The centre, which is due to open in December next year, is one of eight facilities planned for the £700m International Sports Village in Cardiff Bay. A ski slope, ice rink, cinema and restaurants are also planned.
The completed village is expected to create up to 5,000 jobs and attract 3.5 million visitors each year.
ChandlerKBS partner Don Merrifield said: “The whole programme is a major part of a continuing regeneration strategy and will transform a former brown field industrial site into an international destination.
“There is a lot of work to be done to make the canoe centre ready for use, from profiling of the land to build up the course, and building changing and spectator facilities. It is a very exciting time for the sporting community in south Wales.”
