Contractor secures two academy schemes in Basildon and new student halls at Aston University
Contractor Carillion has secured two education contracts worth around £100m in Essex and Birmingham, it announced today.
The firm has won a £57m contract from Aston University to build student accommodation in Birmingham. The scheme includes 1,307 student rooms on the main university campus, and is due to be completed by August 2010.
Carillion has also been named preferred bidder for the £42m Basildon Academies contract by Essex County Council, which includes refurbishment and new-build work for two secondary schools in Basildon.
The first school is due to be completed by December 2009 and the second by December 2011.
John McDonough, chief executive of Carillion, said: “Education is an important growth area for Carillion and we have established a leading position in this market, particularly in the Building Schools for the Future programme, which includes the new academies.
“We are delighted to have been selected by Essex County Council and Aston University for these important projects and look forward to working with them to provide exciting new facilities that will support their objectives for educational excellence.”
