Consultant announces its ambitions to expand in North Yorkshire

Property and infrastructure consultant Capita Symonds has opened a new office in York. The office, at Tower Court, Oakdale Road, will initially employ 12 staff providing civil and structural engineering services to projects across the rail sector.

The firm plans to expand its business in North Yorkshire during the next 15 months into an operation employing 30 staff with a turnover of £3.5m.

Ian Roberts, director, said: “As we are successfully bucking the national downturn trend thanks to contracts on major projects such as Crossrail, we’re implementing ambitious plans to expand our operations across the country. As part of this strategy we will be establishing a strong presence in York which will enable us to further develop our business across the Yorkshire and Humberside region.”

He said the firm will initially specialise in projects across the rail sector, offering a number of services including civil and structural engineering, property, landscape and urban design and project management across a wide range of sectors and industries.

Although the York office is the company’s first in North Yorkshire, Capita has been working in South Yorkshire for some time. The firm has been working in Sheffield since the 1980s and currently employs nearly 100 people in the city.
