Six make the cut for children’s hospital design contract
Capita Symonds and BDP are among the architects shortlisted to design a £40m extension to the children’s hospital in Sheffield.
Avanti Architects, HKS, Llewelyn Davies Yeang and Swanke Hayden Connell Architects also made the cut. Capita Symonds bid in partnership with HLM Architects.
The proposed three-storey extension will be joined to the existing hospital, parts of which date back to 1903, and include a new entrance to the current main reception, an outpatient department and 72 extra beds.
Simon Morritt, chief executive of Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re delighted to be embarking upon a very exciting project looking at extending our hospital and Trust for the future.
“The very best architects from around the country have been invited to create designs for a new wing to be attached to the current hospital.
“This will be the new face of our hospital over the years to come helping us expand, treat more patients and provide even better care for the children of our region and beyond.”
