Landmark structure is among buildings across the globe pledged to join in the Earth Hour sustainability event

Buildings in Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be among those turning off their lights for the Earth Hour initiative next year.

The event, which is organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature, began last year in Sydney, Australia, and asks governments, businesses and individuals to turn off the lights for 60 minutes. Next year's Earth Hour will be held on 28 March.

Burj Dubai
The record-breaking Burj Dubai will join in the event next year, when completed

Dubai's Burj Al Arab hotel and the under-construction Burj Dubai will be among those taking part in the event, which will cover more than 70 cities across the globe.

Other buildings taking part in the event will be the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada, and the Sydney Opera House.
