Victim in critical state after being crushed by falling chimney while working on roof joists in a pub
A workman in the North-east of England has had a leg and an arm amputated after being crushed by a falling chimney.
The incident happened at a pub in Throckley, Newcastle, when doctors were forced to remove his leg at the scene on Tuesday.
A North-East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the 20-year-old was taken to Newcastle general hospital where doctors decided to amputate his arm.
The victim also suffered head injuries and a fractured pelvis. He is said to be in a life-threatening condition.
It is believed the man had been working on roof joists in the pub when the chimney collapsed. The building has now been structurally stabilised.
