Scheme will be built in Haitang Bay

Benoy China

Work on the scheme will start later this year

Benoy has unveiled its proposals for the second phase of a tourism-focused development in the Chinese resort area of Haitang Bay.

The firm’s plans for a 32,000sq m retail-led mixed use development, called Sanya Eyot, on a reclaimed island are anchored by a covered market area, but also include an aquarium, restaurants, shops and entertainment space.

Benoy said the resort’s humid location, on the southern side of Hainan Island, had prompted a “porous” design solution featuring canopies to encourage natural ventilation.

The proposals were drawn up for resort developer China International Travel Service.

Construction is due to begin later this year.
