Bristol axes controversial arena scheme

Bristol City Council is binning plans for a new multi-million pound concert arena in the heart of the city and has proposed pressing ahead with a mixed-use scheme built by Legal & General.

The council’s cabinet decided to scrap the original – and controversial – £123m arena project as costs mounted.

Instead it is recommending an alternative scheme which could include a conference centre, a four or five star hotel, commercial spaces and retail as well as housing, including residential homes for city centre, and affordable homes on the site next to Bristol Temple Meads.
