Development will deliver 900 new homes as well as new ground
Brentford FC has signed a development agreement with Willmott Dixon to build its new stadium.
The club, which currently plays in the Football League Championship, confirmed on Christmas Eve that Willmott Dixon will build its new 20,000 seat community stadium along with associated infrastructure and 910 new homes.
Willmott Dixon was originally picked for the job last January.
The club is moving from its existing home at Griffin Park to a new site at nearby Lionel Road, which it already owns.
As part of the new scheme, 338 of the new homes at the Lionel Road site will be let out by Willmott Dixon’s private rented sector arm be:here.
When the new stadium is open, the Bees will relocate from Griffin Park, where Willmott Dixon will develop 70 three and four-bedroom family homes for private sale.
The Griffin Park development will include a memorial garden to commemorate the history of the football ground where the club has played since 1904.
Following the signing of the agreement, the London Borough of Hounslow will issue a compulsory purchase order to enable Brentford to complete the assembly of its new site.
Andrew Telfer, chief executive of Willmott Dixon’s development company Regen said: “This deal highlights our ability to combine our homes for sale and private rent business models to cross-fund significant projects like stadia as well as deliver large volumes of residential accommodation for both tenures.”
