Mayor links up with Cabe to produce council guidance on design and management of public open spaces
More use should be made of our parks and other public open spaces, the mayor of London has said.
Boris Johnson has joined forces with Cabe Space to launch planning guidance that encourages local authorities to make best use of parks and public open spaces.
An amalgamation of two separate guides that were produced by Cabe Space and the Greater London Authority in 2004, the Open Space Strategies guidance gives advice on assessing the quantity and quality of open spaces.
Johnson said: “In the face of new environmental, social and economic challenges, preserving our open spaces has never been more important for a good quality of life and a more sustainable future.”
He added that the new guidance would be an “invaluable tool to help local authorities plan, design, manage and maintain their open spaces.”
