South American deadly spider found in crate on building site is donated to Durham University
Workers at an engineering and welding factory near Newcastle-Upon-Tyne got a shock when a poisonous spider crawled out from a deliver box.
A Black Widow spider was found in a crate of metal components bound for a Miller UK factory on the Bassington Industrial Estate in Cramlington, Northumberland.
The crate had come from South America, and workers from the plant accessory company called a pest controller from Tyne Teens Environmental Services for help when the spider crawled out of its box.
After catching the deadly spider in a Tupperware box, the pest controller checked the rest of the box to ensure the black widow had travelled alone, before donating the spider to Durham University.
