The new Birmingham Library was topped out at an official ceremony last week.
The nine-storey, £188.8m facility is designed by Danish practice Mecanoo and built by Carillion, and is scheduled to open in 2013. It’s 21,000m2 concrete frame is reinforced by 3,000 tonnes of steel. When complete, the building will be clad in metal, echoing the industrial heritage of the city.
