Two teams have been shortlisted for the redevelopment of south-east London’s notorious Ferrier Estate.
The two teams, chosen by Greenwich council, are led by Crest Nicholson and Berkeley Homes. Crest is working with HTA Architects, Sheppard Robson and Southern Housing Group; Berkeley is working with Hyde Housing Association.
At stake is the massive regeneration of the Ferrier Estate in Kidbrooke. The redevelopment was plotted in a masterplan prepared by EDAW and HTA Architects three years ago. It is proposed that the existing estate will be demolished and the 109 ha site, which is next to Kidbrooke station, will be redeveloped with 4400 homes, transport links, two schools, a library and other community facilities.
The early favourite to win the project, a team led by Countryside Properties with London & Quadrant Housing Group and masterplanner EDAW, failed to make it on to the shortlist.
The team was believed to have lined up architectural big guns, including Will Alsop, to add weight to its bid. The fourth losing bidder was a team comprising Bellway Homes and Taylor Woodrow with Gallions Housing Association.
Greenwich council is expected to announce its chosen developer team in the autumn.
