Architect’s earlier work at London venue won RIBA award earlier this year
Bennetts Associates has secured planning and listed building consent from Camden council for the second phase of the Shaftesbury Theatre renovation in London’s West End.
Work will include redeveloping public spaces around the grade-II listed theatre and remodelling foyers and bars which will see new foyer space below ground serving the basement-level stalls, and the extension and refurbishment of the current ground and upper-level bars.
Bennetts’ previous work at the 107-year-old theatre, refurbishing and extending its fly tower two years ago, won a RIBA national award earlier this year.
The latest work, which follows on from the £5m first phase, will increase foyer space by 200sq m.
