Corporation announces construction schedule, but has still to decide project manager for Broadcasting House.
The BBC outlined plans yesterday for five construction projects, including a planned improvement of Television Centre in White City, west London.

The corporation said it would redevelop the centre in 2008 to link with the White City studios, which are now under construction. An architect has yet to be appointed for the Television Centre scheme.

It also announced a schedule for the construction of four other developments. The schedule includes:

  • Autumn 2002: Work to start on the £200m Broadcasting House redevelopment, designed by MacCormac Jamieson Prichard. The BBC has yet to decide between Schal and Bovis Lend Lease as construction manager on the job. The centre, which is to be used by Radio 4, the World Service and television news, is due to be completed by 2008.

  • Autumn 2003: Birmingham Mailbox, which replaces Pebble Mill, will be ready for occupation.

  • Broadcast Centre in White City is also expected to be ready for occupation by autumn 2003.

  • 2005: The £50m David Chipperfield-designed Pacific Quay, the BBC Scotland headquarters in Glasgow, is due for completion.

The corporation also hinted that its property partnership with developer Land Securities Trillium would expand. LS Trillium has invested £220m in the White City project, being built by Bovis Lend Lease.

The BBC said LS Trillium was offering development and property management services to the BBC's estates in London and Scotland for 30 years.
