Hill International and Louis Berger joint venture has won consultancy contract on Barwa New Cairo scheme
An affiliate of Qatari Diar, the developer of London’s Chelsea Barracks, has announced a $9bn (£5.5bn) residential-led project in Cairo.
The Barwa New Cairo scheme by Barwa Real Estate, is due to start on site in the first quarter of 2010.
A joint venture between Hill International and US consulting engineering firm Louis Berger has won a contract to provide consultancy services on the project.
The development will cover more than 8.4km2 and is expected to be finished in 10–12 years. It will be built on the east side of the capital and feature golf courses, commercial office buildings, medical facilities, schools, mosques, resort and business hotels, villas and apartments, parks and playgrounds, and a town centre with entertainment and retail shopping areas.
Both Bawra Real Estate and Qatari Diar are owned by state-owned Qatar Investment Authority.
