Work started on the first purpose-built Jewish Community Centre in London
BAM Construction has been appointed by JCC Ventures to build the first purpose-built Jewish Community Centre in London.
BAM has already started work on the £25m 35,000ft2 site located on Finchley Road in Hampstead.
The Jewish Community Centre was designed by architects Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands and will be open to people of all faiths.
The centre has drawn inspiration from other successful centres around the world and in particular the Jewish Community Centre in Manhattan’s Upper West Side in New York.
The scheme will also consist of a 10-storey residential tower containing 14 two-bed apartments and an external piazza.
BAM’s Project Manager, Simon Gray, said: “We are delighted to bring our experience and expertise to this important project to provide state-of-the-art facilities for the Jewish and local communities in north London.”
BAM is scheduled to finish construction in early 2013.
