Agreements awarded for extension of works on the M1-A1 Link Road and multi-storey car park in Amersham
Balfour Beatty has secured contracts worth a combined £46m for further work on the M1-A1 Link Road and the extension of a multi-storey car park in Amersham.
The £36m win will see it to continue its operations and maintenance services through to March 2026 on the 18-mile motorway between the M1 and M62 south and east of Leeds, and the A1 south of Wetherby.
Works include network management, technical inspections, routine and cyclical maintenance, asset management and lifecycle maintenance, including pavement, structures, highway lighting and signs, vehicle restraint and road markings.
Highways England awarded the Design Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) contract to Connect Roads in 1996, alongside the operations of the A30/A35 and A50 contracts. Balfour Beatty acts as Connect Roads operator on each of these three DBFO concessions.
It will construct a new five-storey facility, adding 502 parking spaces for the town’s existing 680 space car park that is now at full capacity. Additional amenities will include an elevator service, electric car charge points and CCTV.
The infrastructure group has also been awarded a £10m contract by Chiltern District Council to extend the multi-storey car park in Amersham town centre.
During these works, which will start this autumn and are due for completion by the winter of 2018, the existing car park will remain operational with a new temporary entrance created.
