Quoted contractor stretches lead to £1.5bn over nearest competitor in annual rolling league
Balfour Beatty held on to the top slot in July’s monthly contractor league table, the second produced by Building’s sister company ABI Building Data.
It easily beat off competition from rivals by securing 104 contracts worth almost £450m. Most of the work was picked up in the public non-housing sector, with the biggest wins a schools contract awarded by Nottinghamshire council and a Defence Estates accommodation contract at Lakenheath, both of which were worth £127m.
The July wins helped Balfour Beatty retain its position at the top of the annual table, although it was unlikely to be caught by its closest rival, Laing O’Rourke, which is some £1.5bn behind.
The single most significant win in July was a £131m contract at the Dome redevelopment in Greenwich, London, by private contractor Sir Robert McAlpine. The win catapulted the company to fourth in the monthly league, from 47th in June, and up 10 places in the annual league to 15th.
