Second-phase works including repaving will start in January next year
Balfour Beatty has been appointed to carry out the £21.8m second phase of works on Exhibition Road.
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) made the appointment following cabinet approval of the contract, which will start in January next year.
The major streetscape improvements include repaving the single-surface road from South Kensington Station to Hyde Park with high-quality granite that is expected to last up to 100 years without significant repair.
Nicholas Paget-Brown, cabinet member for transport at RBKC, said: “The removal of kerbs, barriers and street clutter along Exhibition Road will form a spectacular single surface and create a better experience for the millions of visitors to the area.”
