About 750 workers on £81 a month go on strike to demand pay increase

Hundreds of construction workers went on strike in Bahrain demanding a pay increase.

Around 750 labourers are refusing to return to work unless their employer increases their wages from 60 Bahraini dinars a month (£81) to 80 Bahraini dinars a month (£108).

The workers are said to have been involved in a two-year battle with construction firm Almoayyed Contracting over pay issues.

The turmoil follows a general concern over conditions for construction workers in the Gulf states, after thousands went on strike in Dubai last November.
