Engineer to lead on connection between Hong Kong airport and bridge to Macau

China

Engineer Atkins has won a contract to act as lead engineer on a £750m Hong Kong link road scheme to join Hong Kong airport to a bridge to nearby Macau on the Chinese mainland.

The 12km six lane road is being designed and built by China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) and will include a 1km long tunnel section taking it under existing roads.

Atkins will work on the main civil engineering works, tunnel ventilation systems, tunnel control buildings and remediation works to mitigate the impact on existing infrastructure.

Tommy Ng, Atkins director, said: “Almost every engineering discipline within Atkins’ Asia Pacific business was involved in this tender including civil engineering, geotechnical and environmental teams.”

“It marks a significant step into the government infrastructure design and building market and reflects our strong connection with major Chinese contractors,” he added.
