Engineer Arup has taken part in a TV experiment to show what would have happened if Guy Fawkes had managed to light the explosives in the Gunpowder Plot.
The experiment recreated the House of Lords on a computer simulation and showed that the 1605 plot would have killed everyone in the building had Fawkes managed to ignite the 36 barrels of gunpowder stashed beneath it.
“After years of speculation, the test has proved once and for all that Fawkes’s plan would have had devastating consequences for anyone present in the House of Lords that day,” said Arup blast consultant David Hadden.
The results of the experiment will be broadcast on ITV programme The Gunpowder Plot: Exploding the Legend on 1 November 2005.
