RIBA launches international competition to revamp a public square in front of Mecanoo’s Stirling prize-shortlisted Library of Birmingham
An international competition to revamp a public square in front of Mecanoo’s Stirling prize-shortlisted Library of Birmingham has been launched by the RIBA.
Five concept designs will be shortlisted for the work at Centenary Square with each shortlisted practice receiving £5,000. The closing date for entries is 2 December.
Designs will then go on public display with a winner due to be announced next March
Deputy leader of the city council, Ian Ward, said: “This exciting international competition provides designers and Birmingham City Council with a once in a lifetime opportunity to shape what we hope will become a space accessible to both residents and visitors, promoting the square as a place for people to relax and socialise on a more informal basis.”
