Consultant drafted in to work on £136m project
Arcadis has landed a civils consultancy role on the £136m upgrade of Camden Town tube station in north London.
The engineer has been drafted in by Transport for London (TfL) to provide civil and tunnelling design and construction support work on the job.
Camden Town station is badly in need of an upgrade, with the number of people using it having jumped 60% in the past decade.
By 2031, it is predicted demand will exceed station capacity by up to 7,000 people in the mornings and 12,000 in the evenings.
Upgrade works will include the creation of a second entrance and exit to the station - including access tunnels and a new entrance hall - three new escalators and step-free access from the street to platform level.
Analysis of the concept design has begun, with construction expected to start in late 2019. Arcadis will then provide construction support through to expected completion in 2024.
Sub-consultants at Camden are OTB Engineering, CJ Associates and Mace.
Tim Hockney, project director at Arcadis, said: “These upgrade works are essential if the tube network is to support London’s growing population, and Camden Town is one of the busiest stations on the network, long prone to overcrowding and access problems, particularly at weekends and weekday peak times.”
