A man has died after he was crushed by part of a building which collapsed at building site in Tottenham, the second construction site fatality in London this week.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon as the 25-year-old man was working on the site on Tottenham High Road, where demolition firm Prodem was carrying out work for Galliford Try.

The Metropolitan Police said the man suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Royal London Hospital by the ambulance service where he was in a critical condition. He subsequently died on Wednesday 31 October.

A post mortem is scheduled to take place at Haringey Mortuary today.

Police are now investigating the circumstances of the accident and the Health and Safety Executive have also been informed.

In a statement Galliford Try said: “Galliford Try can confirm that an employee of a subcontractor has died following an accident at the Brook House site in Tottenham on Monday. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

“The HSE has begun an inquiry into the accident with our full co-operation and support.”

The death follows another fatality this week, when one man was killed and another two injured after an accident on a building site in Putney.
