Former permanent secretary in environment and Cabinet Ofiice to come on board immediately
Support services group Amey has appointed Sir Richard Mottram as non-executive chairman of the board with immediate effect.
A retired senior civil servant with a 39-year record serving in a variety of UK government departments, Mottram will be involved in developing the business's central and local government agenda.
Before retiring last year, he had held the post of permanent secretary in departments including defence, environment, transport and the regions, work and pensions, and the Cabinet Office.
The firm, which is part of Spanish property group Ferrovial, said it expects his experience across sectors such as transport, environment and public services to prove “invaluable” in developing Amey's business strategy and network.
Mel Ewell, chief executive of Amey, said: “Sir Richard will play a key role as we push forward with our strategy for continued growth and in developing our work in the central and local government arena.”
Mottram said: “With its history of growth and strong forward business opportunities, this is an exciting time to be joining Amey. I look forward to working with Amey's leadership team as we realise the business's vision of transforming services to the public.”
Mottram has received government approval for taking up the appointment as required under the rules for the acceptance of outside appointments by former Crown servants.
