Scheme will be built next door to Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel
Plans for a life sciences cluster in Whitechapel drawn up by architect and masterplanner Allies and Morrison have been submitted to Tower Hamlets Council.
The scheme, which has been on the drawing board since 2018, will be built next door to the Royal London Hospital on five separate plots for NHS Property Services.
A decision on planning is due this summer with a developer set to be appointed by early next year.
Construction is expected to start in 2024 for a finish three years later.
The tallest building in the development will be 18 storeys with two further buildings of eight storeys and two more of four storeys each.
Work will involve tearing down existing buildings with other parts of the development also set to include commercial and community space along with plans for a gallery.
Last autumn Queen Mary announced a deal with the Department of Health and Social Care to take one of the new buildings.
The proposals are expected to create up to 5,660 jobs once the scheme is finished.
Others working on the scheme include architect Gibson Thornley, development manager M3 Consulting, engineer Arup, structures specialist AKT and heritage consultant KM Heritage.
