The refurbishment and extension of Union Street properties will result in 150,000 sq ft of retail space
DLG Architects has won planning permission for a 150,000 sq ft retail redevelopment in Aberdeen.
The Union Green development will see the reconfiguration and refurbishment of various properties on Union Street including the city’s indoor market.
DLG said its designs for Royal London Asset Management would modernise the site, which is situated in a central conservation area. Julian Monaghan, Senior Partner at DLG Architects said: “Our proposed alterations will deliver a much more contemporary elevation treatment that will significantly impact on the city’s retail appearance and shopping experience.”
“Rather than totally reclad the building we have proposed to upgrade and enhance its appearance by exposing blank elevations and provide greater permeability to complement the surrounding area.”
The plans propose that existing tenants including Bhs and Top Shop will re-occupy units following completion in 2008.
