The steel lattice frame of a 1912 airship hangar is to be reassembled as an outsize garden pergola at a business park in Farnborough, Hampshire. It will form the centrepiece of a large public square, designed by conservation specialist Julian Harrap Architects and developed by Slough Estates. The 10 ha historic core of the former military airfield site was sealed off from public view by the Official Secrets Act but will now be restored and opened to the public. Slough Estates plans to carry out construction itself, with Hockley & Dawson as structural engineer.
