Here's a less than ingenious way of getting round the fact that your ladder is too short for the job in hand...
Nicky Boyce , who sent this image from the West Midlands, points out that not only are two men standing on one ladder but one of them has hung the roof access ladder from the chimney breast on its side because it's too short to reach the top.
He says:" I missed the opportunity to take a picture of the man actually climbing up this ladder. He did however come down when he realised it was unsafe. He then proceeded to tie two ladders together using cable ties in order to make a ladder long enough to reach to top of roof."
