Constructing Excellence and independent supply chain organisation Be (Collaborating for the Built Environment) have merged.

The new body, Constructing Excellence in the Built Environment, will act as a knowledge broker between clients, industry and the government, providing practical support and resources.

Speaking at the launch, Peter Rogers, chairman of the new organisation said it would aim to provide a single focus for the improvement agenda within the construction industry. “If we apply the knowledge that already sits within the industry and its organisations then major benefits can be had.”

Constructing Excellence in the Built Environment is looking to double its number of member organisation over the next 12 months and break down the “silo mentality” that currently proliferates in the industry. This will involve attracting more consulting engineers, specialist contractors, clients and manufacturers.

Dennis Lenard, chief executive of the new organisation says the merger brings together two powerful agents of change. “The new organisation will lobby the industry for progress on the change agenda. It will be influential at government level, helping to shape and drive policies that are positive for the industry. It will be supportive and educational at client level, driving innovation through demand.”

Former chief executive of Be, Don Ward, has been appointed deputy chief executive of the new body.
