The british standards institution (BSI) has published two new Best Practice Standards for security professionals covering security screening and the management of false intruder alarms.

BS 7858:2006 Security Screening of Individuals Employed in a Security Environment (Code of Practice) offers recommendations for the screening of all those working in a situation wherein the security and safety of people, goods or property is a requirement of the employing organisation’s operations. It supersedes BS 7858:2004, which was withdrawn on 31 December.

BS 8473:2006 Intruder and Hold-Up Alarm Systems: Management of False Alarms (Code of Practice) provides guidance on the management of intruder and hold-up alarm systems (and the management of alarm situations when they occur) in order to reduce ‘the nuisance factor’ and cut back on the waste of resources created by response to false alarms.

BS 8473:2006 supersedes DD245:2002, which has now been withdrawn from use.

Order reference numbers for both documents (priced at £98 each, or £49 to BSI members) are BS 7858:2006 and BS 8473:2006.
