The outsourced market for facilities management is set to increase by 17% to £22.1bn over the next three years, according to a recent report by research organisation BSRIA.
The organisation estimates that 44% of the £42.6bn market is currently outsourced.
Manufacturing was the biggest sector for outsourcing, with 26% of the total amount of outsourced work coming from that sector.
The report also highlighted that the length of contracts was decreasing and that clients were looking to offload some of the risk onto the providers.
BSRIA states that most FM contracts currently run for three years, but that one-year contracts were becoming more common. They also state that most suppliers expect contracts to become more complex and include shared risk/shared reward clauses linked to performance.
