New market: Plans have been unveiled for the £42.5m redevelopment of the Market Estate in Islington, north London.
The estate’s tenants voted to transfer their homes to Southern Housing Association in July, paving the way for the renewal.
The entire estate will be demolished and replaced with 240 homes for rent, 30 homes for shared ownership and 89 for outright sale. The private homes will help to subsidise part of the cost of the redevelopment.
The design was created by architect Watkins Grey International. Work is due to begin in early 2005.
