Buro Happold has provided the M&E design on the Core, a new education centre at the Eden Project in Cornwall. The building features a roof design whose geometry mimics the arrangement of seeds in a pinecone or sunflower and is clad in standing seam copper panelling, beneath which lies a layer of recycled newspaper acting as thermal insulation. It also supports a number of photovoltaic panels which provide power to the double-height exhibition space, classrooms and a café inside.
